9to5 Mac has an interesting report today that partly recaps a New York Times story today that basically has a lot of news we already know, but that also mentions some new information that 9to5 Mac has had confirmed to it by its sources. Firstly, the website says that it has heard that Apple is planning to release two new iPhones in the near future, a low-end model which will look very similar to the iPhone 4, with a glass front and back, and a tear-drop shaped iPhone 5, with the larger screen and slimmer, more rounded body. According to 9to5 Mac, October is the scheduled release date for both these phones, and apparently all is going very much according to schedule as far as the iPhone 4-alike model is concerned, with Apple planning to have 10 million or so available at launch. This model will be priced very competitively and seen everywhere, and be available on both prepaid and postpaid plans. However, for the completely redesigned iPhone 5, 9to5 Mac says that Apple is experiencing design and production delays on the assembly line, leading them to think that it will be slightly delayed beyond its scheduled launch date, and that it may be in short supply until early 2012. But it may well be worth the extra wait, as according to the report, the iPhone 5 will be lighter and firmer than the Samsung Galaxy phones even, and its camera will be a major feature, good enough to rival point-and-shoot cameras in terms of quality.
