No sound for certain SMS texts

Almost everyone I text the phone won't make a sound for them when they text back. On vibrate or not. No vibration and no sound. I've tried to change the ringtone for the people who seem to be silent but it still has not worked. It's very irritating!! Please help! Thank you so much
