Gave an old Iphone 4 to friend. It is asking for my old Apple ID and password. I have tried to help, by trying to reset ID and password. Unfortunately, I asked to reset my ID, but they can't find my old email address, which means I am unable to get anywhere. I have a new Apple ID, and password, and have for over a yr. Right now they can't update apps, or any Apple updates. Help please, not sure what to do

You can contact Apple if you are the owner of the phone.. they can help you with your old ID and password. So, I am assuming you updated to iOS7, but didn't turn off Find My iPhone or iMessage before you wiped the phone? Unless you can remember the ID and password, the new owner is out of luck.
