Hello, I'm trying to get my own ringtone onto my iphone 5. I have created a AAC 30 second file, then saved it to my desktop but when I try to change the extension to a .m4r it wont let me it's staying as an .m4a - has anyone else encountered the same problem and could help me please?

I usually just erase the "a" and put in "r" , then there is a sort of pop up asking if I want to save it as .m4r . I click yes and that's all.
You must not forget to delete the original clip from your music folder to be able to put your new one in the sound folder .

you will need to have a m4r version of the file in order to make it work as a ringtone on an iPhone as yptcn has said it above
here is a complete tutorial on it see it works for you.
