Problem with jailbreak

So I jail broke my iPhone 4 on 5.1 but when I install winter board or any other app from cydia they don't work, any idea why?

Did you use a tethered jailbreak?

As jimdd810 pointed out, 5.1 is a tethered jailbreak. You will have to boot tethered if you want any of the 3rd party tweaks to work.

I did do that. It was working great Wednesday night and Thursday morning I noticed it wasnt working but I fixed it when I wasn't trying to lol. I took the battery out so I could fix my volume buttons and when I boot tethered it back on I realized it was good.
