Requirements for unlock iphone

So I'm thinking of going to T-mobile for the data since there's no cap to it, and it's cheap. I mostly want it to tether to my laptop. So what are the requirements to unlock a iPhone 4 or a 3Gs?

For the most part... unlocking an iPhone relies on what Baseband it's on. Let us know what yours are on and we'll see if they're unlockable or not. Go to Setting>General>About... and tell us what's next to Modem Firmware.

Unfortunately... 4.12.01 isn't unlockable at this time. There may be websites out there that say that can... but it's a scam. Sorry... :-(
