Is there any way to set an email for return receipts in the native apple mail app

Afaik that's not possible.

If you need to know whether or not your emails have been viewed, there are apps like Mailtracker for iOS and iTrackMail, both of them a kind of tracking application. When an email has been read, you'll receive an alert.
