Samsung ramps up iPhone OLED production.webp

The new iPhone gets ever closer, with 9to5 Mac reporting today that seven of Samsung’s OLED production lines have now reached full capacity manufacturing displays for the new phone.

The original report from Korea’s ETNews, said that full-scale production is set to start later this month, with output capacity growing by 700%. The source says that Samsung has finished inspecting the seven OLED production lines that are dedicated solely to producing screens for the next iPhone, and once they enter full-scale production, capacity will increase from 15,000 panels per month last year to 105,000 panels per month. Bear in mind that each panel produces many iPhone screens.

With production at maximum, and with 100% yield, this would produce up to 130 million 5.8-inch OLED displays per year. However, industry insiders have said that yield for Apple displays is usually only around 60% because of technical issues.

Although Apple has used OLED displays in the Apple Watch, this will be the first iPhone model to have an OLED display.
