Screen shots

I am going back and forth with an app writer and they asked for screen shots.
How can I do that? This is for an iPad 4.
The vendor said to press the home and power button at the same time. I do that and the device blinks, but after that I am lost as to what to do. Thanks in advance for any help given.

After the "blink" a screenshot will be in your camera roll. You can send that via text or email.
