Setting up themes

Hi all I have a few questions about setting up themes. When I load and theme and set it in winterboard nothing happens the icons dont change, nothing at all, are there other settings that have to be changed. The other is when ssh into the phone do you load it as one big file or do you load each folder separate. Thanks in advance

some themes require you to switch on SummerBoard mode before you see any icon changes. As far as I know each folder has to be loaded separate but the developer usually specifies where each element has to go. The other thing important is your os version, some themes only work on certain versions .
