Since it was released at the beginning of March, Speedball 2: Evolution has been number 1 in the Paid App Charts in eight countries around the globe, and garnered great reviews from fans and critics alike. Now if you haven’t already downloaded the game and are wondering what all the fuss is about, you’ll be glad to know that Tower Studios has just unleashed a free, fully playable demo to the App Store.

The demo, like the full game, is a brutal, futuristic mixture of football and hockey played at break neck speed, offering seamless iOS enhancements such as brand new visuals designed specifically to showcase your iPhone or iPad, and local multiplayer competitions across Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Unfortunately though, the demo only seems to be available in the US App Store at the moment.

Jon Hare, CEO of Tower Studios and the game’s creative director said: “It is clear that those who remember the original Speedball have already gone weak at the knees for this new iteration – but now this free playable demo offers everyone the chance to fall in love.”

And here’s a list of the game’s main features courtesy of Tower Studios:

  • Hard Hitting Gameplay
  • Super Slick Visuals
  • Choice of Intuitive Tilt and Virtual Joystick Controls
  • 28 Teams from 4 Planets
  • 10 Season Career Mode
  • 10 Single Player Game Modes
  • Full Player Transfer Market and Upgrades
  • Multiplayer Mode (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth)
  • Retina Display on iPhone4
  • HD Graphics on iPad
  • Game Center Support

UPDATE: Speedball 2: Evolution Free is also now available in App Stores worldwide, not just the US as previously stated.
