I got my first iPhone in Nov 2024. Before I only had phones that you could make and receive calls. So this is really new.
In Dec, I got a call, which I didn't want. So I hung up. BUT. In my contacts I had an old blocked nbr for this person. She got a new nbr. I immediately blocked that nbr.
I thought nothing more of that incident.
This week, on a whim, I decided to call my nbr from my cell phone. I expected to get either a busy signal or get transferred to voicemail. Neither happened. Instead, I heard the phone call from Dec.
How do I delete this 'voicemail'. There is no tag on the voicemail icon, that a voicemail exists. There are no options when the voicemail is playing. Maybe it is not a voicemail, but a recording.
In any event, how do I delete it?

Thanks.

You should see a red trash can symbol to the right of the play arrow. Tap this to delete the message.

There is no play arrow. There is no trash can. When I make the call to myself, the 'voicemail' begins to play.

That's very strange. You should be able to get an automated voice by calling your own number to check your voicemail box through AT&T. I saw something online that says this:
From another phone
Opening your voicemail from another phone is handy if you don't have your wireless phone with you, or you’re outside a coverage area. To check your voicemail messages from another phone:
  1. Call your 10-digit wireless number.
  2. When you hear your voicemail greeting, press the * key to interrupt it.
  3. If you reach the main voicemail system greeting, enter your 10-digit wireless phone number, then interrupt your greeting by pressing the * key.
  4. Enter your voicemail password when prompted.
  5. Follow the voice instructions to listen to your messages.

At least it's something you could try. I would also consider reaching out to AT&T tech support (Ugh, I know) and see if they can help you reset your voicemail box.

This was the support article: Access Voicemail

On your phone - under the Phone App you should see a list of your Voicemails. You can delete them from there.
I think, if I'm reading correctly (and comprehending correctly lol), @AccessShell is saying that they don't have the particular voicemail in the Phone app through the Apple UI. I believe it only happens when they call in to check their voicemail (the old-fashioned way). It sounds like @AccessShell already deleted it from the iPhone UI part a while ago.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

If I deleted something, back in dec, I didn't know what I was doing. I have never call my phone from another phone to check for voicemail. I have called from another phone to check what ringtone I have (I've added several), and to check if the phone rings. Sometimes, the call log tells me a call came through, but I never heard it. I had the phone next to me!

As with most questions I place on forums, I find the answer myself. This happened now. I listened to the entire msg, then the phone gave me some options. I chose to hit key 7. Msg gone.

Yeah!
That's great! Glad you got it!
