I particularly like the 9th...
That has been my favourite piece of music, in any genre, FOREVER...until I discovered Mahler's 8th. That one blew me away, and continues to do so. For years, I avoided Mahler like the plague. Now, I can't get enough.I particularly like the 9th...

That said, the 9th is still up there for me. I took a friend of mine to see a performance by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that, his musical experience was limited to blues. He's not so limited now. Here's Herbert Blomstedt with the piece.
For comparison purposes, here's an excellent performance of Mahler 8, the Symphony of 1000.

Yes, although I only have it on vinyl so it's not very portable. I should invest in a CD copy.Have you ever listened to Charpentiers Te Deum?
It's just glorious...
I have it on cd but it's ages since I played it...Yes, although I only have it on vinyl so it's not very portable. I should invest in a CD copy.
Found one for a decent price. Apparently, my Erato vinyl version is worth about $165 and the CD is not much cheaper. Found a recording by William Christie and Les Arts Florissants for $5. That'll do. I have Handel's Messiah by the same performers, so I'm sure the recording will be up there.I have it on cd but it's ages since I played it...
At some point I'm going to rip my favourites to my Macbook then to my iphone....
