According to a report on AppleInsider today, Sprints Virgin Mobile USA carrier is set to be the second carrier in the US to have the iPhone on offer to customers on a prepaid basis. The news comes from MarketWatch, which says that Virgin Mobile will make the announcement this week, and will start selling the iPhone from July 1. AppleInsider notes that Virgin Mobiles iPhones will be available to a much wider market than that of Cricket Wireless, which announced last week that it will be the first prepaid carrier to have the iPhone. Cricket covers smaller markets, but Virgin is able to use Sprints network, which covers 278 million people. Although Virgin has yet to announce pricing details for a prepaid iPhone, AppleInsider says that Virgin Mobile USAs current prepaid plans for other phones start at $35 per month for unlimited capped data, so that at least gives you some idea of what to expect.
