Winter Wolves brings its mystery/detective visual novel game Vera Blanc to the app store this week, with both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad versions of Episode 1 now available. The game tells the story of Vera Blanc, a beautiful woman with the ability to read minds. In this first episode, she travels to a mysterious town in Germany, deep in the Black Forest, where a serial killer is on the loose, and a werewolf is the unlikely suspect.
This sort of game has an avid following on the web, and its easy to see why. The bold, comic-style artwork and visual-novel gameplay is certainly a refreshing change, especially if you like solving detective and murder mysteries. The original web game featured some interesting minigames as well, including mind reading and spot the difference, but apparently Winter Wolves Studio has removed these for the iPhone version for technical reason, but hopefully the core gameplay is absorbing enough to cope with the omission. Luckily for iPad owners, the minigames are included in the iPad version, which also boasts high resolution graphics and new endings.
