What are you doing right NOW??? ;)

Sounds complicated.
I was wondering where you found the MacBook. Did you get the iPod (from 2002) there as well?
It's not too complicated, you just have to study up on just what to do before you start. The most critical part of the process was making sure the hard drive was set up properly before erasing it.

They both came from different pawn shops. I bought the MacBook Pro on Monday for $250.00, 1/10th of it's cost when new in 2008.

Along with Mavericks, I'm now on itunes 11.4. WooHoo!, I have my iTunes sidebar back.

I just logged into my old IBM thinkpad I hadn't used in 3 years in order to log into iTunes and de-authorize the computer.

Right now I'm having break from my cataloging project, I'm taking photos of all my antiques so they can be
A- Stored on an SDHC card.
B- Stored on my MacBook.
C-Stored in DropBox.
D-The biggest job, Editing every photo with purchase details and storing on an external HD.
There's no shortcut, just have to plough on, All the details are in a book I keep but only in date order.
When I started collecting no one had computers ect so it was a case of entering details in a book and taking a photo and having it developed.
Its quite a job :(

Have you found an app for this yet? An app on your MacBook would make this a lot easier not to mention more fun.

No I didn't find anything that I thought would do what I want, I'll keep looking though, I still need to have this record in any case, Also it will be useful.
Once this is done it will be simple going forward provided I keep it up.

Good point, maintenance will be a snap once the initial implementation is in place, and you can always catalog it digitally later. Glad to see you're committed to this and I hope you find a good app to help you in this journey. Even a simple spreadsheet would be of some help I would think.

Actually the hardest thing is going back and forth in my records to match purchase details up to the items.
Some things like Thimbles are very similar so I have to check the marks too, I'm getting there though.......Slowly :)

Have you seen this?

Home Inventory Mobile Backup on the App Store on iTunes

Looks like it has apps for both iOS and OS X. Judging from the pictures it looks like a nice bit of kit.
