Before baseball invented playoffs we were guaranteed to have the two best teams in baseball that season in the World Series. That is no longer the case. Baseball playoffs were invented not because of need but to generate more revenue. Back in the day, playoffs only happened if two teams were tied for first place at the end of the season.
