I got the otterbox defender for both iphone and ipad
<img src="http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=15524"/> OtterBox Defender. The only choices were this green with camo and a bright orange with the same camo. It's hard to get it in and out of the clip and it's hard to lift the fingerprint sensor cover, the mute button cover and the Lightning port cover too. *Photos taken with my no flash iPad

You can use it as one all you'd like, the purpose of it is not to be a scanner cover and that's why you're having trouble using the finger print scanner. In the second set of pictures you posted, the front is what it would look like if the case had been made for the iPhone 5s.

The correct Otterbox Defender case for the 5S has a screen protector that goes down past the home button. There is a hole in the screen protector directly over the home button, allowing the TouchID feature to work.
Here is a photo of the case on my 5S.

If the box your case came in was labeled as being for the 5S, it was certainly mislabelled. Thanks Sci, I'm going to email them Monday after I try the phone store that sold me this one if the store doesn't help.
