A report came out today by the trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stating that Apple is currently in the planning stages for a foldable iPhone.

You can read my writeup on it here if you missed it: 📰 - Apple Likely to Face Bigger Challenges in 2025

I'm not sure what kind of folding iPhone it would be, but I think I would be into it! If it was a 6.1-inch screen folded and then you could unfold it into an iPad-like display I would be all over it. If it's a 3-inch iPhone folded, and you unfold it into a regular iPhone, I'm not sure I would go crazy over it.

What do you guys think? Would you be into it?

I think folding smartphones are more of a gimmick than necessity.

I tend to agree. But an iPhone that can turn into an iPad would be awesome!

Apple probably wouldn't pursue that though, it may cannibalize their iPad sales.

That means that a more realistic route is a smaller iPhone, albeit thicker.

Maybe a better route would be an iPad 13-inch that folds into an iPad mini. You would get the best of both worlds!

I agree with @scifan57 about the fold in the screen. Perhaps a more interesting design might be to go with a slightly smaller screen with a separate keyboard and make it more like the old Motorola flip phone. And maybe have a small always on screen on the outside.

I've used quite a few foldable phones so I feel like I'm pretty used to the form factor and my favorite type of phone is like the one that I currently have which is the Samsung Fold 6. I've also used the flip style phones which can be very useful for many as it's pocketable. I'm still hoping for Samsung to increase the width while closed as other phone manufacturers are doing. As for durability I've never had an issue with any of the phones which I usually keep for a year before I trade in for the next one but it's always good to have that insurance coverage. I will definitely keep an eye on what Apple will do but I I feel like that's not coming anytime soon as all we have been hearing is rumors.
