However...of you have an A5 device(iPhone 4S, iPad 2/3) then you have no choice then to use the backup restore method from Absinthe or redsn0w. Neither one is better then the other when it comes to jailbreaking any A5 device. A5 devices can only be jailbroken via the backup/restore method.
