Cancelling data plan? (AT&T)

I'm usually in a wifi zone when I'm with my phone, so I hate spending 20$ a month for data I don't use. I know all the phone companies require a data plan with the purchase of a smart phone, but at a later date, can that data plan be cancelled?

Unfortunately no.... AT&T's network will know you're using an iPhone/smartphone and automatically put you back into a data plan. Regardless if you're under contract or not.
