deleting gmail messages from iPhone 4

On my iPhone 4 I would like to delete messages instead of archiving.
I've been told to go to Settings>Mail Contacts Calendars>Gmail and change
it there, but there is only the slider to turn gmail on or off.
Anyone have an answer?

Select "Move" at the bottom and then "trash"

In Settings - Mails,... - tap Gmail,

then tap Account (where you see your email address),

next to select is Advanced at the bottom of the next page.

You will have to remove the keyboard to see it, if it pops up. On the next page, go to "Move Discarded Messages To" and choose "Deleted Mailbox".

This will change the settings in the Mail app.
