Q1: why de we preserve baseband ?
Q2. i have seen a video on youtube of latest version of snowbreeze 2.9.8 with support for ios 6.1.. it had integrated evasion
it creates custom firmware for ios 6.1 and then i can restore iphone mobile using itune.
is it complete process to follow ? or i miss something over there ?

the facts are 3gs, BB 6.15.00, ios 4.0.4 , new bootloader. can i follow method prescribed in point 2 to update my mobile to 6.1 and unlock it ?

1) You preserve the baseband for two possible reason. 1 so that you don't have to downgrade, restore, and flash again. 2 is because if you're on a new bootrom 3GS and you managed to flash the iPad baseband, we don't want to mess with it.

2) I personally don't like Sn0wBreeze because it's known for bugs. RedSn0w has a more complete package of features and RedSn0w is more straightforward IMO. You can use Sn0wBreeze, I personally don't recommend it, don't like it, and don't interact with it much so I can't guide you using Sn0wBreeze.
