How download (from Dropbox) and play mp3 podcast?

How can I download an mp3 podcast from Dropbox to my iphone and then play it?

I will listen to the (long) podcast in chunks, over time. In other words, I need a method that will remember where I left off.

I prefer to avoid using iTunes.

After posting the OP above I continued to flail around searching the internet for a solution and, while I have not found a general solution to my problem statement, I have solved the challenge for my own immediate purposes.

In case anyone is interested, I found that the particular podcast I'm interested in is available via Spotify, and the Spotify app remembers 'where left off listening'.

There was an earlier thread that suggested VLC player as a solution, but I, like other users, could not force that app to remember 'where left off listening'.

It seems as though we can't import mp3 or m4a files into the Apple Podcasts app anymore. And even iTunes is deprecated now. I did find this Reddit thread that might be helpful:
