How fast does email arrive?

Coming from BB, I am concerned about email.
How fast does email arrive? If you set the phone to receive email asap, does it drain the battery signifigantly quicker?

lol..... to be honest i came from a blackberry and was worried about the same thing..

my corporate and private emails arrive pretty much instant

corporate - exchange activesync
private - gmail

Thanks Garrett. How ais the notification system for emails? Can a person get used to it and live with it?
I really like this feature on BB, and is pretty much my stumbling point for switching over to IPhone.

I have gmail running through exchange and it is only a few seconds to almost instantly after email is sent

honestly its no different then a blackberry minus the LED status light notification. It rings and vibrates just the same.

also this depends on your personal notification settings.
