Rather than reaching for your iPhone every time you hear a chime, you can change your SMS tone to avoid mistaking others' alerts as your own. Make changes by accessing your phone settings.

1.Press the "Home" button on your iPhone and slide your finger across the screen's bar to unlock it.
2.Tap the "Settings" icon on your screen and tap the "Sounds" tab.
3.Tap the "New Text Message" tab and tap the sound you wish to use. Tap the "Home" button to save the changes and return to the main menu.
