Imessaging

At this moment my wife is at home on wifi, i'm in work on 3G, I just text her and the message is blue. Am I right in thinking the messages in blue will be from my data allowance rather than my sms? I get unlimited sms, limited data. How much data does a normal 170 character text equate to?

Yes I had seen one or two replies like that. What I'd like to know is how much of my data allowance will I lose per imessage? I have unlimited sms, so theres no real benefit from an imessage. In fact it's detrimental, i only have 500mb per month data which I pretty much use

Turn iMessage off, then you will only SMS
Unlike you, I have a 500mb allowance and have only ever used 98mb....and I stream video from home
An iMessage must only use a minuscule amount of data...much much less than a short email.

It's worth pointing out that iMessage has no character limit, unlike SMS. That's why there is no character count.
