I had one AppleCare claim on an iPhone. I received a replacement iPhone 3 days before the AppleCare expired.

Haha I did that with my iPad before AppleCare expired. It had a small crack that might have been a scratch, so I did ERS on it for $50. Brand new iPad with a brand new battery

Yes there was usually something on tv showing people doing that here too
When the original Apple Watch opened for pre orders it was at 12:05am pacific time.
