omly took the contract out about 2months ago, i heard alot about only being able to do it after a cetrain amount of time? mentioned this on the phone when i rang up to unlock the phone and the guy said it was fine and he would still do it for me.

It all depends on the carrier, some do it after 24 hours and even on pay as you go.

Its with tesco.. Just gonna try it everyday until friday and if still have no luck ill call em back. Appreciate all your help btw :-)

well the thing is because Tesco uses the o2 network, you can use any carrier that uses the o2 network such as giffgaff or o2 lol as you notice on the top left of the iphone it says o2 and not tesco.

Mine says tesco... So you mean my phone would already take an o2 sim without it having been unlocked? Sim i was planning on putting init is orange....

ok so you wanted to use orange..

I have done it before with an older iphone that was locked to o2 and I have given it to my brother who has then used a tesco sim and it has worked with no unlock needed, because it uses the o2 network it has always said o2 on the phone and itunes has recognised it as o2 as well. But since you dont plan on using o2 network then it does not matter. Has tesco given no explanation as to why or whats taking them so long?

Ahh right i get you now... Tbh i would of rather been on 02 but im tied into this orange contract till next year.
As for the people on the other end of the phone at tesco.... Not very helpful at all. They just tell me that i have to wait until the 28 days are up before they can do anything. Are there any more options for getting it unlocked other than this? Just thinkin incase this unlock doesnt work.....

This is the best option, it will work and I would wait for it because the other methods of unlock that nto all of them are even available to you are very un reliable and not as good as a permanent unlock

Then I would ring the carrier and see what is taking them so long

Might be the same on most UK carriers I fear, I think it Apple take their own sweet time over this

By coincidence a good pal of mine has been given his sons old iP3g due to him getting an upgrade, it's locked to Orange, so the son applied for the unlock code and paid £20, was told up to 31 days :(

He would jail break but lives 6 months each year in Spain during our vwinter, and worries if he gets problems with updates (Internet speed is awful).

Ok so rang them up... They put me on a high priority list. It unlocked this morning. Now i cut my sim card into a micro sim with a stapler like tool i got off ebay.. Put it in my iphone and it just shows low signal? Im guessin this is most likely because my iphone

Oops pressed tge send button without finishing there. So yea as i was saying im guessing this is because my data package on that sim card is still on blackberry? Doesnt switch over to iphone till the 19th which is another 6 days away yet

I remember being told on o2 its 24 hours and that on a contract they let you unlock as many devices as you want, though probably due to high demand to unlock it will take them 31 days maybe more.

The main thing is that you got unlocked now :) but maybe in areas of better signal you will see a rise in bars.

Yea true least the unlocking is over and done with.. Just put a pay as you go micro sim in which i bought off ebay.. And it hasnt recognised it atall.. Just says no sim?
