IPhone 4s in Europe

I have the Iphone 4s and am going abroad to Europe for 4 months. I will be going to Spain, but traveling throughout Europe while I am there. I have Verizon. Does anyone know the process for using this phone in Europe? Thank you.

I recommend turning off data while roaming. You will end up with an expensive bill otherwise.
