Iphone speakers

Are the two speakers at the bottom of the phone supposed to work ? only the one on the right side is working. Is that the only one that is supposed to work or is my phone defective? There are two spots that look like speakers and sound only comes out of right side

Only one speaker. The one on the right is a speaker. The one on the left is a microphone.
