If you restore it iTunes will force you to 6.0.1, and yes it will wipe everything. iTunes should have a backup of it though from whenever you last successfully synced with it. You can restore that backup after.

Or you could try what I said to fix it and a restore would not be needed, it really isn't that hard.

Ok, I think I understand now. Wiping it and restoring from backup will get rid of the JB right? I just want to make sure that will solve the problem before I go ahead and wipe all her apps and pics and music etc. I appreciate the info on the alternative but I'd have to find someone else to do that 'cause I don't have the tech savviness to try.

Yes, restoring it in itunes should fix that issue. Only time a restore won't fix a problem is if it is hardware related (which I don't think this is).
