I don't think that you will be able to downgrade, specially if you've never saved your previous iOS SHSH

PC. There is no way for you to update via iPhone. At least not as of now. Ios5 will offer OTA

Plus ios 5 does not download the whole firmware just the new features that come with the new firmware so the download becomes around 150MB instead of 800
