Open apps

Hello everyone

I am pretty new to the iphone 4 verizon and love it. Slowly i am finding the apps that suit me.
My question is how do you actually close an app or exit out so its not running in the backround, or is it not running if its not opened up on the screen.

You can double click the hold button, then press and hold on the icon for the app you want to permanently close. I have to do this for some of the apps I use, otherwise they will continue to run in the background and drain the battery.

If you hold it wont it delete the app?

Nope. It will simply remove it from the list of recently ran apps and will close if running in the background.

It will show a history of apps you have previously used. It doesn't necessarily mean it is running in the background but is a good indication. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
