Is it a Roman mile marker?
I think it's a votive altar (I couldn't find a better translation). It doesn't belong to my village, so I'm not exactly sure what it is. Most words are not complete, I can't translate it correctly.

You don't see too many purple houses. The house next door is built to the same plan but is a boring brown colour.

Are there any Roman remains?
In the 1700's something similar to what J.A posted was unearthed but for some reason it is the museum at York not ours, There are clues in the name of the town and some street names but not much else, Everything has been changed so much now.

Our town was once a Roman fort.
Over the years the usual finds have been unearthed, pottery ect and they can be seen in the museum.
