I've tried everything to update my se 2020 to ios 18.3 using itunes, but itunes slways says the phone sw is up to date at 17.7.1,
I can update using the phone, but I want to use itunes like i have previously. I've rebooted and reinstalled and tried different computers but itunes always says 17.7.1 is latest. I'm using Windows 10 and 11 and itunes 12.13.4 the latest, downloaded from apple.
Any ideas any one?

You could try downloading the Apple Devices app, that might be able to update to iOS 18. Apple is slowly deprecating iTunes on Windows.

Thanks, tried it, same result.
It can't just be me can it?
I mazing will do the update, for a fee!

No, don't buy anything that says it will do software stuff to your iPhone. Does it show up if you go into settings > general > update? I know you would like to do it from your computer, but I'm just curious if it pops up OTA.

Update the iPhone using the iPhone, the plug it into your computer and back it up on iTunes. That is what I have been doing for years and I recently had to do a restore using iTunes and the backup worked perfectly.

Ta. Did the iTunes restore include your Contacts or not?

And does the iPhone built-in Backup function save Contacts, do you know?

I am going to say yes.. My contacts were transferred from my sim to my first 1phone when I got the IP 4 and since then only I have entered new names but never had to do that for old ones. My backups always come from iTunes, I only update the IOS over the air. I like to have it all on my computer (now a Mac but initially a Windows pc). But icloud does back up my contacts, that is how all my other devices (all Apple) automatically update contacts when I add something new. I also have iCloud saving my photos but when I transfer from my previous iPhone to a new one last fall, my pics came to my iphone too. To be honest, after all these yrs, I no longer worry about any of this as long as I make sure I regularly back up my iPhone to iTunes. My best friend has the same equipment as I do and she has the downloads and backups to iCloud done automatically and she isn’t having issues either or I would have heard about it.
