MacRumors reports today on a Reuters interview with Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo where he repeated an earlier claim that Apples next iPhone will be a world mode phone capable of working on both GSM and CDMA. He also said that Verizon would be launching the new phone at the same time as AT&T. Shammo told Reuters that he is happy with the sales of the Verizon iPhone six months into its launch, bearing in mind that it is not a worldwide phone. However, this will change with the next iPhone, which Shammo told Reuters will work in as many countries as AT&Ts iPhone.
Shammo also talked about LTE, hinting that the next iPhone will not support it, which seems to be the consensus of opinion at the moment. Covering a lot of bases in the interview, Shammo also revealed the rather unwelcome news that this summer Verizon intends to replace its unlimited data plans with a tiered system similar to that used by AT&T, but to soften the blow it will also be adding family data plans, whereby several devices in a household can share the same data allowance.
