May Return my 4S Due to Battery Life

May Return my 4S Due to Battery Life

Another update. At 1130 or 7 hours off charger at 96%. Been using it some so down to 90 now. Much better.

I pre-ordered my iPhone 4S 32 gb from Sprint on October 7th and received it the 14th. After I activated it, I synced it with ITunes, then ejected it and began using it. I dowloaded several apps from the app store and updated five or six that iTunes installed (iPhone versions of Pages, Nimbers, and Keynote I had purchased for my iPad), made sure the phone worked by placing a few calls, sent several text messages, sent and received a ton of email, and played Angry Birds for far too long. Went from Friday until this morning on a single charge. Finally plugged it into the charger at 10:30 a.m. Still had 10 percent.

I hope this keeps up, because this is amazing battery life. Sorry to hear so many others are experiencing issues.

Today with little usage at all it is at 55% at 4;18 pm after being unplugged at 7:30 am. If I had used it much today it would be around 30%. I am new to Iphone, so I don't know what I could have brought over to contaminate my new phone except my google contacts and calendar. I will try a back up and reset to see what happens. Bill

Do me a favor and open Settings. Go to General and then Usage. Scroll to the bottom and tell me what the two times are.

I am currently at 1H 54M usage and 8H 28M standby with 76% battery left. 10 minutes of calls and 11 text message with the rest being internet based look ups. Which I have to admit looks like I am bleeding battery a tad bit faster than I used to seeing.

Usage 11 hours 31 minutes Standby 2 days 5 hours
Call time 3 hours 4 minutes
life time 3 hours 4 minutes
Cellular network data- Sent 35.7 MB received 183 MD

I know I turned my phone on this morning around 7:30 am and it is now 5:15 so usage should be at 9:45 minutes and not 11 hours 31 minutes. Is my phone not resetting after a full charge. I know this morning my battery read 100%. Do these numbers mean anything to you? Thanks for the help,........again. Bill

I consider 10 hours of usage with 20+ hours of standby excellent and on target for a phone of this nature. Looks like you are right on par with that.

I want to keep up my good battery record on this exchanged phone. Once I deep cycle down to 1 or 2% and then charge again to 100% overnight, do I want to "restore" from a backup of my previous 4S with the bad battery or "sync" somehow to get music, contacts, apps, etc. Not too concerned about data for apps or settings. What is best approach to ease back into a full phone?

I have never done an "eased in" approach. Theoretically, I would say re-sync each subsection in iTunes manually. The only thing I don't know is if app data is resunk with the app. My guess is no. But again I have no working knowledge to be sure.

You are now at the limit of my knowledge base. So if you do this, you are going to be helping/teaching me now :)

I just discovered in the app store an iCloud feature. Under Updates--->Purchased is the massive list of what I, or my Stepson, or my Daughter have purchased on their devices against my Apple ID. I can actually use the "Install" button to add one back at a time if I choose to that way to "test" battery effect. I should probably just confirm I have a good batt after another deep cycle charge though and let 'er rip on the restore.....

My phone has been turned on for 9 hours and it is at 42% with little usage today. Is that normal?
When you sya you consider my usage on par, what do you mean? Do you mean my power usage profile, or are you thinking I got those hours from one charge? Thanks Bill

Update: my iPhone 4S battery indicated a 100% charge at 12:30, so i disconnected the charge cord. At 6:00 p.m., it was showing 96% after only being on standby since it was fully charged.

Now I'm beginning to get concerned; four percent battery drain in only 4.5 hours?

iPhone 4s batt life is comparable to my old iPhone 4. Took it off the charger at 0430 and with moderate to heavy use Throughout the day (even watched a quarter and a half of MNF streamed live) and at 2300 it hit 13% on the batt meter. I've got a Mophie case for backup but haven't had to use it yet. I for one think settings are the obvious key to extend the life. Manually push emails and updates, turn off wifi and bluetooth when not in use etc. I couldn't be happier. Good luck to all and dont give up so easily. There will be updates tips n tricks that will eventually extend the batt life for your liking.

You're seriously tripping out for 4% in 4 hours?? I don't make it past 5.5 hours of usage before i hit 10%. it's a phone. Just use it people.

Sorry; that was meant to be tongue in cheek.
