i want to upgrade to 5.1.1 but will i get unteathered?

No. When the jailbreak is out then yes, but today....no.

I personally am going to wait for the 5.1.1 untether Absinthe to be be released..and I'm going to use that. Since I never used it before.lol.

That's why I'm waiting for the untether before updating.

If I was just going to use redsn0w then I would update rite now, jailbreak tethered...then just run the new redsn0w over the tethered jailbreak.

But I'm going to use Absinthe...and I really doubt you will be able to apply the untether to an already tethered jailbreak with the Absinthe tool.

The current version of Absinthe for A5 devices allows you to install Cydia, but that's all it does. You cannot reinstall the jailbreak or Cydia with it...but when redsn0w was released with A5 5.0.1 support it did allow users to rejailbreak or reinstall Cydia.

If I were you I wild just go ahead and update your 4S ASAP.

The untether on A5 will "not" support 5.1. It will be for 5.1.1 only.

Ok without going into all the whole thread, I am currently on 5.1 and have an iPad 2, shall I upgrade to 5.1.1 and jailbreak from there or stay on 5.1...

Thanks..

We have a whole thread here for this reason - so people can read it and get answers to their questions. Why should we post an answer to your question when it's already in the thread?

Hint: See posts #218 and 229

Please, read and then post for further clarification, if necessary.

Thanks.

Thanks very nice write up! It actually doesn't seem like it will take too long for me because I mostly have tweaks. The only thing I have themed is my status bar and SMS. I went ahead and downloaded the pkgbkup app(7.99 for anyone wondering) and im going to update it on my next day off. It actually looks like it will go pretty smooth for me as mostly everything I have downloaded is listed in the packages drop down list in the backup app. Looks like all I will have to download afterwards is winter board ands my status bar/SMS theme.

Thanks again, this is going to save me alot of time.

xBackup works great for backing up Cydia tweaks as well.

I prefer it to PkgBackup because I don't want to backup "anything" except my Cydia tweaks...no sense in having all those options if I'm not going to use them. Plus it's it like $2 or something

Open the app, tap backup...and send the backup to the server, or don't. If you do t just the apps path and copy Backuo.zip to computer.

After restore, install xBackup, SSH into phone and place the Backup.zip back in the designated DIR...then open the app, tap restore, reboot twice.

Damn looks like testing is only needed for one more device. I'm hoping for a release maybe tomorrow?
