What does everyone think of a folding iPhone? Would it be an instant buy for you?

I would need a few things to get on board. It would have to not sacrifice the durability of the iPhone, meaning the same awesome IP rating we get right now. I want the crease of the fold to be invisible, that would drive me crazy seeing a faint line in the middle of the screen all the time. Finally, it should start around the same price as the Pro Max model. I would not want to spend more than $1500 USD on an iPhone.

What do y'all think?

I think it would not be possible to make the fold in the screen invisible when unfolded. There’s also the real possibility of the screen failing at the fold after long use.
At the present time, the folding phones on the market are more of a gimmick than a practical necessity.

The screen could and will fail for sure. I think there could be a way to get rid of the crease, maybe with a different folding mechanism or a different material than is being used now. Most of the folds use a U-shape hinge to mitigate the crease.

The flip foldables like the one in the picture I used are a gimmick, but a foldable iPhone that turns into an iPad could be really useful I think.

I have a foldable Motorola Razr 2024 bought Sep 2024. People said you get used to the fold, or it's not even noticeable, or you can hardly even feel the crease, or even, it;s no big deal it's not like it distorts what's on the screen, and a host of other things.

1. I very much see the fold
2. I very much feel the fold even though I have neuropathy in my hands, I can still feel it.
3. I can see distortion from certain viewing angles.
4. I can see reflections of objects on the screen like normal but the reflections change when they are on the fold making it look worse to me.

While I've had no issues with the hinge or foldable glass screen on my Razr, its still relatively new technology and I'd not buy another one from Apple or otherwise unless it offers a superior warranty (that I don't have to pay extra for) on the screen above everything else that's covered. So if they offer a 3 year warranty on a foldable iPhone then I'd also want a 5 or 6 year warranty just on the screen against cracks, delaminating screen covers etc. before I'd consider buying another folding phone no matter who the manufacturer, Apple, Samsung, Nothing phone, whomever.

Oh and lastly they'd have to throw in a really feking nice case for it. Aftermarket cases and even Motos own cases pretty much suck.

Oh and $1500 would be a no starter for me. If they couldn't keep it under $800 than I'd have ZERO interest. Phones are a need for me but not a fashion accessory, my Razr 2024 was under $600 and many got them on deals at places like Cricket for only $99 with a contract that most are going to have with their carrier anyway.
