Personally I'm keeping my ip5 up to date on the latest jailbreakable version of iOS but the ipad mini I'm leaving 6.1 until a significant update comes out.

i have a 4S. (unlocked) but not Jailbroken and its not updated to iOS6.1.2 i heard many experts talk about 4S iOS versions and i am afraid that it will affect my if i update it

plzzzzzz answer my questions below

-To which iOS version should i updatefirst
-and how to update via iTunes (i downloaded the 6.1.2 ipsw version)***** plsss explain me this by procedure.
-and wat about jailbreaking after upgrade, which tool i want to select Evsi0n or Redsn0w.

plzzzzz help me it would a grt help.

As stated in your initial post, I recommend going for iOS 6.1.2 as it is the latest version. To do so, simply click on the Restore button on iTunes, or if any problems arouse, perform the procedures in the "Failsafe Method" thread. After upgrading, your only option is to use Evasi0n as RedSn0w has not yet been updated to manage iOS 6 IPSWs for non-iPhone 3GS devices with respect to jailbreaking.

Updated Evasi0n to v1.5.0.
Anybody know how to fix a Cydia 'disappear' crash on opening. Just did a full restore and put my tweaks back with a great tool called OpenBackUp. But after restoring all my tools (still haven't done the iTunes restore of my apps yet) Cydia is crashing on tap. Has anyone else experienced this. I know the few tricks of clear everything out of the dkpg/updates folder and clearing the cydia.metadata file. Those fixes haven't worked. Any others? I'm not far into the process. So I can just rerestore. Thought someone might have a fix.

Might be an incompatibility in the older apps that were installed when you restored the backup. Weed through your packages and see which one or ones are incompatible.

Exactly. A "disappear" crash. Before it ever opens. Click on icon- tries to launch - disappears back to springboard.

Could possibly be the evasi0n package. You are jail breaking with a newer evasi0n then openbackup is loading an older one back on it.

Don't have experience with OpenBackup, but if it works identically to PKGBackup, then it doesn't back up the physical files as you propose. It just queues a list of the apps that were previously installed, and when you download, it'll download the latest version of an app. If the device is on iOS 5, and you have a certain tweak or app installed that's not updated for iOS 6 support yet, it'll install it anyways and cause problems.

Openbackup has two settings. Basic mode which just backs up a list of everything installed like pkgbackup. And advanced mode which actually downloads all the debs you have installed. With advanced you can actually reinstall all your tweaks and their dependancies even if the repos in Cydia are not working.

In this case his device was not on iOS5. He is going from 6.1 to 6.1.2 so should not see any issues where an app is not compatible. Even if one was I don't think Cydia crashing would be a symptom. Safe mode would most likely be caused by that kind of problem. Now if evasi0n is somehow corrupted because openbackup installed a earlier version than what was actually used to jailbreak the device I could see that causing Cydia to crash.

But if it was the Evasi0n Untether from Cydia, it wouldn't cause Cydia to crash, it would cause you to boot into safe mode because the "NoUpdate" innate feature doesn't affect Cydia or any system files that directly links to booting up of an app, and the boot fix from 0.4-1 affects the device's booting up, so it wouldn't affect Cydia with that respect either though. I would say to diagnose whether or not its an Evasi0n problem, open up Cydia while in safe mode and check out the version that's installed. If it's 0.3-1, upgrade it to 0.4-1 and respring and see if that fixes the issue.

You are thinking in terms of features that we're added to evasi0n that could mess up because of this. I am thinking more in a general sense that the untether package itself could be corrupted. No untether no Cydia opening. Just a theory though, just trying to throw out ideas for him.

Yes. This is the input I got from someone on ModMyI as well. That in advanced mode - it's likely the Evasi0n untether deb that's causing the issue. But I just last night restored from 6.1.2 to 6.1.2 with Evasi0n 1.5. And same thing happened. OOOH!! But come to think of it, my openbackup backup itself had been done when I jailbroke using 1.4 Evasion. So that's likely it - right? (Still I updated in Cydia to the 1.5 untether. I just don't remember if I did the OB backup first).

If I were to do it yet again 6.1.2 to 6.1.2 Evasion 1.5 AFTER having backed up the debs from a phone JB'ed with 1.5 it would work? Or since, When you're ready to restore from OpenBackup you're already jailbroken, could I just delete the evaders deb file since it's already installed? Are you sure the evaders deb file is tied to Cydia? I thought it was just the untether tweak itself?

Thanks for your help, all!
