The Useless Information Thread

The electric chair was invented by a dentist.

The word "electrocution" was coined to describe the method of execution of the death penalty by electric current.

The first death sentence carried out by means of electric current used direct current, to the dismay of Edison, who wanted Westinghouse's alternating current to be used. Both inventors believed that their method of transmission was safer and wanted the other's used in death penalty cases to prove their case.

People are not executed. The death penalty is executed upon the condemned criminal.

Most people consider (for the English language) the vowels to be A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y. I taught my children early on that it was proper to add the following to that phrase "And even sometimes W". Why would I do that? Because a vowel isn't a letter. It is when the air way of the speaker is completely open from the lungs to the lips. I always wanted my kids to think outside of the "rules" of education and learn the truth behind everything they could.

BTW, the word was "cwm". Pronounced "koom".

And yes, I did have to speak with several teachers that told my children they were incorrect over the years. LOL

Also, its a great Scrabble word along with qoph if you ever need to make up points by having them lose a turn when they challenge you. :)

Thank you for the two Scrabble words, Now if I can just remember them ;)

I play against the CPU by the way so I will see if it allows them.

Cwm is the word I had in mind when I wrote my earlier post in this thread about vowels.

By the way, including "Y" as a vowel means that "facetiously" still works, having all 6 vowels in order.

From memory, cwm means rivulet or stream in Welsh (Cymraeg)

Interesting, Two words the CPU allow in Scrabble are QAT and QIN, No idea what they mean but if you place them well they get good scores.

Mark Twain was asked "What would men become in a world without women?"

His reply:

"Scarce!"

I'm not in any hurry. One of the roads I'll be using today is presently closed after an accident that happened 4 hours ago.

Looks like a couple of pickup trucks had a bit of a coming together. By the look of the news photographs I doubt the drivers survived.

That's horrible!
Did this happen because of the snow?
